Storage Tips
So now you have your items packed into boxes, loaded on the truck or trailer, and are ready to stuff it all into your newly rented storage unit. But hold on, there are a few storage tips you should know first to help you maximize your unit’s space and ensure the best storing environment possible.
Frequently Used
Store items you’ll need most often at the front of the unit.
Climate Control
Always use climate control for humidity sensitive items.
Lay It Down
Mattresses should be covered and stored flat on level surfaces.
Leave Some Space
When you pack your storage unit, create a center aisle for easier access to all items.
Maximize Space.
If you’re storing tables and other furniture, remove legs and store tabletops and sofas on end, to save space. If table legs cannot be removed store tables top-to-top.
Engine Prep
Drain gasoline and oil from lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and other items with small engines.
Get It Off the Ground
Don’t place boxes directly on concrete floors, use pallets to allow air flow around and under items.
Store Photos Flat
Old photographs tend to curl over time. To keep them flat, place them between two pieces of cardboard and tape them together.
Prevent Rust
When storing metal items, to prevent or slow the impact of rust, wipe all metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil.
Lock It Up
Always use high quality locks on your storage unit.
